sqi-baxter AWARD PROGRAMS
sqi-Baxter Early Career Development Award in Bioengineering
Application Deadline: TBD
The SQI-Baxter Early Career Award Program supports young researchers in the field of bioengineering who work on interdisciplinary research dedicated to accelerating medical discovery and breeding scientific collaboration in clinical medicine, engineering, physical sciences, and life sciences.
Eligibility: Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or currently hold the visa status required to work at Northwestern University. The program is limited to recent graduates who have received doctoral degrees no more than two years prior to the fellowship start date; however, new doctoral recipients are preferred. Qualifications include demonstrated ability to pursue research in areas such as targeted therapy delivery through nanotechnology; novel therapies, early detection methods, and medical devices; stem cell based therapies; and biomaterials for tissue regeneration. One or more Northwestern University faculty members must sponsor each applicant, and candidates already at Northwestern are welcome to apply. SQI is particularly interested in projects that will utilize the Institute's Core Facilities in the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center.
Requirements: Fellows are required to commit 100% of their effort to the SQI-Baxter research project during the award period and they must conduct their research in residence at SQI on the Chicago campus of Northwestern University.
SQI-Baxter Research Incubator Program
The SQI-Baxter Research Incubator Program provided funding to seed innovative interdisciplinary research projects in bionanomedicine from 2003-2011. The program allowed Northwestern University faculty members to launch exploratory, collaborative, and high-risk research with great potential to attract external funding after obtaining some preliminary results. So far investigators who received SQI-Baxter Incubator awards have reported obtaining external grants worth more than 37 times the initial investment Baxter made in their research.
Terms governing reporting, intellectual property, publications, and confidentiality for the SQI-Baxter programs will be provided on request.
